Traditional Party Games

Traditional Party Games Ideas for KidsIf you do not live in an area that we cover then the thought of hosting a party yourself can be a daunting one.

Fear not, because we have compiled a list of our favourite simple to do party games that your party guests are bound to enjoy.

Make sure that you have plenty of prizes to give to any winners and runners up of the party games you play.

In this post we are going to cover traditional party games. Future posts will include some new party games for both boys and girls. Please check back soon.

If you have any suggestions for our list please complete the form at the bottom of this post.

Musical Bumps and Musical Statues always go down well with kids. All you need for these is some great party music and some “spotters” to help with finding the child who sat down last or is moving.

If the children at your party are a little bit excitable why not try calming them down with a game of Sleeping Lions, with a prize going to the child that has stayed lying down and still the longest.

Pass the parcel is again another popular game with kids. You can play this the good old fashioned way whereby you wrap a prize in layers of newspaper, with each layer revealing a mini prize for the person that has opened it, with the main prize going to the child who unwraps the last layer.  This method is fine, but requires a lot of time consuming preparation before your party.

There is an alternative to wrapping the parcel yourself. You can now purchase a pass the parcel box whereby you fill it with prizes / sweets close the lid, switch it on and let the children pass it round. The box plays its own music and can either stop randomly or via remote control. Click here to buy a pass the parcel machine

Party Games for Boys and GirlsPin the tail on the donkey is a simple game to play. You can buy reusable pin the tale on the donkey games from your supermarket or online here for only a few pounds. You will also need a blindfold and blutac. Prizes for this game go to the child who blindfolded pins the tail closest to the actual position the tail should be.

There are slight variations to the Teddy Bears Picnic game but this is how we like to play it. The game requires a hat, scarf, gloves, plastic plate, plastic cutlery a wrapped bar of chocolate and some music. Sit the children down in a circle and place the hat, scarf and gloves on the birthday boy / girl. Start the Music. Once the music starts the children must pass the hat scarf and gloves on to the person sitting next to them. When the music stops the child who has the hat, scarf and gloves on has 15 seconds to use the cutlery to cut up the chocolate and eat any the get on to the fork. The game finishes when all the chocolate is gone. This game can get a bit messy so it is advisable to place a mat or protector underneath the children. (An alternative way to play is by making the children take turns in rolling a dice, once a child rolls a 6 then it is their turn to dress up and eat the chocolate bar)

Musical Hats. This party game requires at least one hat for each child playing. Get the children sitting in a circle each with a hat on their head? Start your party music and get the children to pass their hat to the person next to them.  When the music stops any child without a hat is out of the game. On the first go every child will have a hat. After this take away one hat each time until you are left with a winner.
